Reviews

"It can be a challenge to review fully custom bikes. That’s doubly so when the review includes hours of riding in Colombia before climbing for 8 hours up the longest paved climb in the world. Nonetheless, I couldn’t help but share the number of gorgeous details and wonderful stories behind this Scarab Letras."

"In the end, this red bike reminded me why we build bikes. We build bikes because we want them to have meaning for you. Because they are purpose-built. Because you deserve to be impressed each time you ride your bike."

Ben Delaney came to Colombia to race Transcordilleras with Scarab. Riding a Páramo through the country’s mountains, he won the race and documented the experience in this film.

Velo joined Scarab in Colombia to ride El Sifón on a Letras. Across 117 kilometers and 4,300 meters of climbing, he experienced changing climates, high-altitude roads, and the cycling culture surrounding the world’s longest paved climb.

Scarab Cycles is a bit different though. The overall approach is a hybrid of production vs custom that walks every customer through a process. You start by picking a model and then developing custom geometry to match your body measurements.

Miguel Ovalles rode the Páramo for The Radavist. His review looks beyond handling and performance to explore how a bicycle can carry the landscape, culture, and intention of the place where it was made.

David Arthur traveled to Colombia to collect his custom Santa Rosa from our workshop, then took it directly to El Sifón. His film follows the ride from the tropical lowlands to the high Andes on one of the longest paved climbs in the world.

After riding his custom Santa Rosa in Colombia and back home in the UK, David Arthur reviews its fit, handling, construction, and ride quality, asking whether it is time to reconsider what a modern steel road bike can be.
